Learn how to feel better when you’re experiencing nausea.

Nausea is never pleasant. Whether you’re experiencing it as a result of pregnancy, chemotherapy, travel, heartburn or overindulgence, learn how to feel better naturally. Remember that if you’re experiencing severe vomiting or diarrhea along with nausea, you should always talk to your doctor.

Ginger
Ginger has been proven to reduce nausea that occurs for a variety of reasons. In fact, it’s also been demonstrated to reduce the pain from menstrual cramps. According to Medline Plus, one study found ginger reduced nausea and vomiting by 38%. If your nausea is significant, try taking capsules available from your local pharmacy. For mild nausea, chew on organic ginger candy or sip on a natural ginger tea or soda.

Peppermint
Although Medline Plus doesn’t report significant evidence to the efficacy of peppermint for nausea, particularly after surgery, many individuals swear by the results. Try a gentle peppermint tea or suck on an organic peppermint candy and see if it helps with your nausea.

Small meals
Whether you’re experiencing morning sickness or heartburn-related nausea, small meals may help you feel better. Try eating little snacks throughout the day, listening to what your body tells you it wants.

Acupuncture and acupressure
According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the term acupuncture describes a series of procedures involving the stimulation of points on the body using a variety of techniques. Some people have found relief for nausea, particularly due to motion sickness, through application of acupressure. Talk to a local licensed practitioner to find out if this method of treatment may help you.

Aromatherapy
According to the National Cancer Institute, laboratory studies and animal studies have shown that certain essential oils have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, calming or energizing effects. Talk to an aromatherapist who is certified through The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy to see what sorts of oils may help you with nausea symptoms.
